Our Centre.
Our Future.
A brighter more welcoming space for our events, programs and the people who bring our community together.
A Fresh Look for a Hardworking Space
Our Main Hall has been at the heart of community life for years, hosting everything from fitness classes and recreational programs to weddings, celebrations, and special events. With so much happening at the centre, it's time to give this well-loved space some attention!
The existing painted flooring has deteriorated over time, requiring ongoing maintenance and taking away from the appearance of an otherwise welcoming facility.
Our new flooring will make a big difference! It will provide a fresh, attractive finish that's easier to clean and maintain, with improved comfort and acoustic performance for the many activities that share the space.
We're also updating flooring in several adjoining areas, helping bring the older portions of our centre more in line with the 2015 expansion.
And we're making the most of this opportunity! Alongside the flooring replacement, our volunteers and partner organizations will be reorganizing storage, improving how we use our shared spaces, and making room for future programs.
It's more than a new floor. It's another step toward a more welcoming, functional Community Centre for everyone.
A fresher, more flexible place to gather
Our Main Hall has hosted countless memories over the years. The new flooring will refresh the appearance of the space while making it easier to clean and maintain, more comfortable to use and better suited to the many activities held here. It is also expected to help with acoustics.
Whether the hall is being used for a community event, exercise class, wedding or family celebration, we want it to feel like a space our community is proud to share. The project will also help bring the older part of the centre more in line with the expansion completed in 2015, creating a more cohesive feel throughout the building.
More than flooring: rethinking our shared spaces
The flooring work provides the perfect opportunity for a much broader refresh. Together with the organizations that use the centre, our volunteer team will sort through stored supplies, clear out materials no longer needed and rethink how equipment is organized.
Our goal is to create dedicated, well-organized storage for each organization, add practical shelving and storage systems, make shared equipment easier to access, and free up space for additional programs in the future. We are also exploring a facelift for the building entrance as part of the wider improvements.
Behind every welcoming event or successful program is a team of volunteers working to make the space function. This project is another way our volunteers are helping build better spaces for today’s activities—and new possibilities for tomorrow.
See the Transformation
There is a lot happening at the Constance & Buckham’s Bay Community Centre. From community celebrations and special events to recreation programs, fitness classes and private gatherings, our centre is bringing neighbours together in more ways than ever.
As the Constance & Buckham’s Bay Community Association (CBBCA) continues to grow its programs and events, our Board is equally committed to improving the spaces that make them possible. That is why we are excited to announce new flooring for our Main Hall and several other areas of the centre, a significant step toward a more welcoming, practical and beautiful place for everyone.
Project timeline and what to expect
After the Santa Night Parade (December 2026)
We will begin emptying and reorganizing storage areas. The stage will be used for temporary storage and will be unavailable during this period.
Throughout December 2026
Volunteers and partner organizations will clear shelving, remove existing materials and flooring where appropriate, and prepare areas for the flooring contractor. WE NEED YOUR HELP!
First week of January 2027
Our professional contractor is expected to begin floor preparation and installation. Work is anticipated to take approximately three weeks.
Late January to early February 2027
We hope to rebuild storage, reinstall shelving, return equipment and bring spaces back into regular use. This is our target, not a guaranteed reopening date.
Some spaces will be temporarily unavailable while work is underway. Safety and contractor access will guide which areas can be used at each stage. We will share updates as the schedule is confirmed.
January programs and fitness memberships
We anticipate a reduced fitness schedule in January as we work around construction. Some activities may be moved into smaller downstairs rooms, while others may need to be adjusted or paused. We are developing a temporary program schedule and will communicate changes directly to affected participants as soon as details are confirmed.
We are also reviewing whether temporary membership discounts or other adjustments will be appropriate for fitness members affected by reduced programming. No changes have been finalized yet.
Help bring the transformation to life
We would love to involve community members and local businesses who can contribute time, skills or supplies. There will be opportunities to help before the contractor arrives and after the new floors are installed.
Volunteer your time or skills
We expect to need help with moving and sorting materials, removing shelving and old flooring, general preparation, assembling and building storage systems, reinstalling shelving and organizing equipment. We are also interested in hearing from people with carpentry and finishing skills who may be able to help with additional improvements.
Professional flooring preparation and installation will be handled by our contractor. Volunteer activities will be coordinated around the construction schedule and appropriate safety requirements.
Contribute materials or services
New or suitable gently used storage bins, shelving, building supplies and donated services may help us create practical, long-lasting storage solutions. To avoid accepting items we cannot use, please contact us before dropping anything off.
Follow the progress
We will post updates on facebook and here as work moves forward—including preparation, construction milestones, changes to program access and progress photos. We look forward to sharing the finished space with everyone once the project is complete.
Thank you for helping us build what comes next
Our centre has grown through years of volunteer effort, community support and the commitment of organizations that call it home. We know improvements to these spaces have been on the community’s wish list for some time, and we are excited to turn that shared vision into action.
Our Board believes that investing in the community means investing in both the programs that bring us together and the places where those connections happen. Thank you to our volunteers, partners and neighbours for helping create a more inviting, functional centre for generations to come.
Together, we are making room for more.
